Start with an inventory
Provide recorder and camera model numbers, the number of occupied channels and photographs of connections. Analogue coaxial systems and IP systems require different upgrade approaches.
Check compatibility
A camera being discoverable does not guarantee access to every smart feature. Resolution, encoding, bandwidth, PoE power and event compatibility must be checked.
Allow room to grow
Consider spare channels and storage needs before choosing a replacement recorder. Existing cable can only be reused after its type, condition and performance are assessed.
